Divisional's Meet RSVP Reminder!

Parents,

We need an early RSVP for all swimmers going to Divisionals this weekend (in Huntsville).

Everyone can swim Divisionals that swam in a meet and we can use all the help we can get. (The regular season ended with a three way tie for first).

So RSVP today if you can. Also in the comments leave your swim preferences and Coach will try to accommodate you. He may need you in a specific event so we can win it, but he also wants to get swimmers as many invitational times as we can.

RSVP TODAY!

RSVP WILL CLOSE AT 8:00 AM ON WEDNESDAY MORNING.

We merge this meet a day earlier because of the amount of prep time there is for the paperwork for the host team. So RSVP's will need to be in earlier so we can get entries done sooner. We can only enter ONE relay for each event so we will not place anyone in a relay that is not a confirmed YES on the RSVP list.

Have a great day!

Meet RSVP Reminder

Parents,

This is a reminder to RSVP for the meet this weekend by Midnight tonight!

The meet will be in College Station at Adamson Lagoon on Saturday!

This is always our biggest rivalry meet of the year so make sure to RSVP yes if you're going to be there.

It also looks like we are in need of a few more volunteers for the second shift. Please make sure you're volunteering for these meets because we depend on your help to make them happen. If we don't have enough timers we are unable to continue the meet until we have enough show up.

We had a number of timers work both shifts last weekend and we need to give everyone a fair chance to watch their kids during the meet.

Thanks and see you at the pool!

Practice Update!! (Yes - It's Time!!)

Parents,

I wanted to send a practice update out that our locations have changed.

We will start practicing at the Bryan Aquatic Center again tomorrow! Practice will be at the same time with both age groups swimming at the same facility.

Please note that there will be NO Lap Swimming tomorrow. Only our programs will be held at the pool tomorrow.

Lap swimming will start back on Tuesday with some limitations. Those will be posted at the pool and communicated via our Communications and Marketing Department and our Parks and Recreation Department to the community and all of our pass holders.

Please note that there will be some areas of the facility that will have caution tape, barriers, or other means to block foot traffic as the contractors finish some of the final items to complete the renovation process. Please make sure to be stay off of all grass areas as large areas have been freshly sod and cannot have foot traffic currently. This is to ensure a speedy finish of the final items to be completed and the safety of all of our patrons.

Thank you all for being so patient with us as we worked to get back to the BAC! I am so excited to finally have everyone back in one place and can't thank you all enough for your support as we worked to get this facility ready for you!

I would ask that any and all questions about the process, the final items to be completed, or any other facility construction related issues be communicated with me at the pool or by email.

I will have the kids' shirts at the pool tomorrow to pick up as well!!

See you at practice! See you at the BAC!!

Important Information for Swim Meet - Location Changed

Parents,

At this point we cannot 100% guarantee that the Bryan Aquatic Center will be available for our swim meet on Saturday against Navasota. The Navasota swim team has graciously offered to hold the meet at their facility and we will operate the meet as the "Home Team".

This means that we will need to provide the same number of volunteers as we normally would and that our warm up times and start time will all stay the same. That information is provided below and is available by clicking the "Swim Meets" link on the home page navigation bar.

Directions to the Navasota pool are available on the swim meet page as well.

Meet Information:

Check in time: begins at 7:00am

Warm up time: 7:15am

Meet start time: 8:30am

Pool address: 101 Stadium Drive, Navasota, TX 77868

We are still in need of volunteers so please make sure you sign up to help out especially on the second shift. The meet will stop if we don't have enough timers so please make sure it doesn't stop because of our team!

We will see you at the pool soon!

Meet Reminders

Parents,

Just a reminder that we have a meet this weekend against Navasota! Please make sure you have RSVP'ed Yes or No for the meet this weekend by WEDNESDAY. We will only put kids in Relays if they have RSVP'ed yes for the meet!

Click Here for meet information, RSVP, and Volunteering

Navasota has graciously offered to host the meet at their pool with our team as the home team in the event the Bryan Aquatic Center is not ready. Which means that we will still need all the same number of volunteers so please make sure you sign up!

We need to make sure it's not the same parents signing up every week to help out so everyone gets a fair chance to watch their kids at the meets.

Practice is still at the 2 seasonal pools. I will notify everyone of any changes in the schedule as soon I am aware we're able to get back to the Bryan Aquatic Center.

Have a wonderful week and I will see you all soon!

Time Trials Reminder

Parents,

Just a reminder that we do have Time Trials tomorrow! The meet has been merged and you can view the entries for tomorrow.

Please do not be alarmed if you see an entry for a stroke your swimmer may not be able to swim. We tried to pull the entries for strokes we knew swimmers wouldn't be in but we may have missed a few as all swimmers are entered for all of their eligible events for Time Trials to attempt to get a time.

Reminders for tomorrow:

Location: Adamson Lagoon (1900 Anderson St, College Station, TX 77840)

Arrival Time: 7:00 am (Check in will start at 7:15am)

Warm Up Time: Warm ups will start at 7:45am and the meet will start promptly at 8:00am.

Make sure you bring:

  • Swim Suit!

Weather Update for Practice Tonight

Parents,

We are monitoring the weather tonight with the current severe storm watch. Please check back to the website for the most recent updates on the scrolling banner.

We will practice as normal unless we see lightning or hear thunder. It looks like our potential for inclement weather will be short lived around practice time.

Have a great evening!

Time Trials Information

Good Afternoon Parents!

I wanted to make sure I got this information to you as soon as we solidified the plans. We were really hoping we'd be able to get the BAC in time for Time Trials on Saturday but there still some uncertainty as to whether it will be fully ready for a swim meet come Saturday.

So in an effort to make sure everyone has time to plan their weekend for our Time Trials Mock Meet here is the information you need to know!

Who: Bryan Barracudas and College Station Tsunami's

What: Both teams will hold their Time Trials Meet at the same time (just like last year). We will not swim any relay events.

Where: Adamson Lagoon

When: Warm-up's will begin at 7:30 am so please arrive a little early to check in. The meet will begin promptly at 8:00 am and end at 2:30 pm at the latest.

Why: The primary reason we hold a Time Trials Mock Meet is to get everyone a practice meet in before we get to the real thing. This year with practices split up it has been a little wonky and I would like to get everyone in the same place and on the same page before we get into prep for a real meet! Because I cannot guarantee that we will be able to use the Bryan Aquatic Center for Time Trials on Saturday we have partnered with College Station again to hold our Time Trials at their pool this year.

Other Important Information:

  • We will need you to RSVP to the meet to let us know if you're coming or not. If you're unable to come we will have to get your times during practice on Monday.
  • We will require help from our parents in the form of volunteering! We will need timers, officials, check in parents, etc. Please view the volunteer tab on the Swim Meet page for this meet. Please make sure you have filled out your volunteer paperwork with the City of Bryan. All parents need to fill this out. CLICK HERE TO FILL OUT THE APPLICATION
  •  Both teams will be competing against their own team and will not be seeded against the other. If you were with us last year you may remember this, we will swim the event for College Station and then the same event for Bryan.
  • If we don't get through all of the events by 2:30 pm we will get the times during practice on Monday. Because we will not be swimming relays we should be able to get through the meet just fine.
  • There will be designated areas to set up chairs, pop up tents, etc around the pool. Please follow all guidelines and rules from City of College Station Staff as the graciously host us.

I have included the links for the Time Trials Swim Meet, the volunteer section, and the RSVP section. If you have any trouble or questions please don't hesitate to give me a shout. I know this can be overwhelming for everyone that is new to swim team this year so please don't hesitate to reach out on the Friends of Barracudas Facebook group, to me by email, or to another parent or swimmer if you have any questions at all.

Parent Shirts and Swim Caps

Parents,

We're going to shirts and swim caps just a little differently this year. Instead of taking orders from everyone via email and as you come in for practice at the pool we're going to have you guys use our online registrations system to sign up and pay. That way we don't lose anyone's order with the split practices!

I've set up 3 extra sections in the Barracudas registration section on our website. One for parent shirts, one for latex swim caps, and one for silicone swim caps. I've included the link for all three below. Please "register" for the activity and pay for the item you'd like to order online. If you're ordering a shirt for yourself please make sure the parent getting the shirt is the one who is signed up.

Registration is open until midnight on Sunday May 7th to place your order for shirts and swim caps. I will place the order on Monday morning.

Additional Swimming Opportunities (TAAF and WLSL)

Parents,

There are some additional swimming opportunities available coming up as our NWAL season draws to a close.

1. I know there was an attempt at breaking a world record this week that some of our swimmers participated in but had to be called off short of the mark due to weather conditions. There is another chance to break a different world record by having your kids participate in the City of Bryan's portion of the World's Largest Swim Lesson!! If your child would to be a part of setting a Guinness World Record by participating in the World's Largest Swim Lesson please arrive at the pool on Friday June 24th at 9:45am to get checked in and get started! The lesson is 30 minutes long. We are also in need of a couple of volunteers for this event - if you're interested in helping please let me know! (It's just taking some notes for the record submission)

2. If you or your child is interested in swimming for the City of Bryan's TAAF Swim Team please let me know by Wednesday June 29th (If you decide to swim TAAF after June 30th there is a late registration penalty fee). TAAF Swimming is organized by age group similar to NWAL Swimming : 8 & under; 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-70, etc in 5-year increments.

This is another opportunity to swim now that the NWAL season is through. There are two big meets associated with this swimming opportunity - The Regional Qualifier (July 16th here at the Bryan Aquatic Center) and The State Games of Texas (July 28th- July 31st in McAllen, TX).

Anyone ages 15 & Up are NOT required to swim at the Regional Qualifying meet to swim in the State Games of Texas Meet. Anyone ages 14 & Under ARE required to swim and place in the top 3 at the Regional Qualifying meet to swim in the State Games of Texas.

Cost and Practice Times are below. This covers the TAAF Registration Fee we are required to pay for all participants and the coaches time during practice. If you would like to swim with our team at the meets but are not available for the scheduled practice time with coaches there is another option available.

You can pay the $6 registration fee to the City to cover the TAAF fee and pay the regular daily entry rates for lap swimming(you can use a 25 punch pass for this). A number of the coaches will be swimming TAAF again this year and will be swimming from 7:00pm-8:00pm Monday-Friday but no official coaching will be given if you choose this option.

If you or your child (YES I am saying all of you parents can swim TAAF!!) wants to swim TAAF please let me know by Wednesday June 29th. We have to register each athlete with our Bryan Team and then submit our entries for the Regional Meet by July 9th.

If you want to swim but cannot make the registration payment at this time please let me know so I can get you registered as a part of the team before the deadline passes.

You are welcome to sign up online for either option by clicking the links below or by coming and registering in person at the Bryan Aquatic Center.

Option 1 ($40.00 option)

Option 2 ($6.00 initial option)

Practice Schedule:

June 27th - July 27th

Monday-Friday 8:30am-10:00am

Cost:

$40 per participant swimming

$7 per event at the Regional Qualifying Meet

$7 per event at the State Games of Texas (These entries will be due on July 18th at the Regional Qualifier Meet)

Message from Coach Rich for Divisionals and Invitationals!

Parents,

Here are the links for the invitational meets that include the locations. Ponderosa      RWB

Please see the message below:

Hey Everyone! We are down to Divisionals the weekend in Navasota! Warmups are at 7:00am for us so make sure you arrive with plenty of time to check in! This is going to be us against the world… okay, not the world, but all of the rest of the Far North division.

I’ve had a lot of questions about invitationals, so I wanted to help clear some things up.

First off, I’ve decided that we are not going to swim at the Trinity meet this year - we will be attending the Red, White and Blue meet (RWB). Due to some major construction at the facility, we would not be able to set up under the stands. Also, they have made the qualifying times a bit tighter and that left out some of the swimmers that normally qualify. The Red White and Blue meet will have some indoor seating for swimmers (AC in the cafeteria) and allow for a few more swimmers to make the cut. For Red white and Blue, the format is similar to the Trinity meet with a couple of exceptions. All 100’s will be swam on Friday night. Saturday is for all 10-Under swimmers and Sunday is for all 11-Up swimmers. This meet will be at Klein Collins High School

The top swimming invitational for NWAL is the Ponderosa meet. This is a prelim-Final meet that is spread out between Saturday and Sunday for all age groups with the events split between the two. This meet is at Klein Oaks High School. Depending on what you have qualified for, you can actually attend both meets, shuttling between the two. We have had numerous swimmers do this.

I have included the list of people who have qualified already for these two meets. There are also a large amount of swimmers that are close to additional events and can make them this weekend. I tried to put you in all of the events that you were close in, so you’d have a shot.

If you choose to go to an invitational, we will need to know a couple things. First, whether you plan to go. The turn-around on these meets as far as entering will be very tight. We need to have entries sent in by Sunday night or Monday. We will probably poll you during the divisional meet to see if you are planning to go. Secondly, there is an extra entry fee you have to pay to swim at these invitationals. Each individual even you choose to swim will be $5.00. If you are swimming in a Relay, the Team will cover your relay costs, so don’t worry about that.

Once again, I’m looking forward to this weekend and being able to watch everyone shine. I’ve included a current list of everyone who has qualified and the events they have qualified for. If you have any questions, please ask Marty, the other coaches, or myself.

Notes for Next Week

From Coach Rich,

Hey everybody, just a reminder. We start the new swim practice times tomorrow.

Starting Monday we will have practice starting in the morning
Practice 1: 8:00-9:15 AM
Practice 2: 9:30-11:00 AM

We will still have an evening practice but only one of them.
Evening Practice: 6:45-8:00 PM

Also, please RSVP for Saturday. It is our BIG end of the regular season meet against College Station. It will be at the Bryan Aquatic Center on Saturday.

Down the line we have two more big meets coming up. The following Saturday is our divisional meet in Navasota against all of the far north teams. We’ve won the past couple years and the other teams are gunning for our crown.

Following the Divisional meet, the next weekend will be invitationals. These are end of the season meets that will be against all of the NWAL teams. You need cut-off times for these meets that a lot of you have already made. We will be putting you in some events to help you make a few more times for these meets if you are interested in going.

So… See you tomorrow morning! And let’s get ready for the College Station Tsunami’s.

Cancelation Notice for Swim Meet

Parents,

Due to the recent severe weather in the area our facilities have experienced electrical, water quality, and other issues that will force us to postpone our meet and close for the weekend.

All City of Bryan Aquatics facilities will be closed for Memorial Day Weekend.

We are currently working with the Lee County Swim Team (Giddings) on a date for the new meet according the specified NWAL guidelines. We are required to offer three dates before the start of the next swim meet to reschedule the meet on and those have been sent based on facility availability. As soon as a date is picked you all will be notified.

I understand that this change may prevent some of you from attending this meet and I appreciate your understanding and patience as we work through this.

Again, once a date has been decided I will be sure to notify everyone immediately.

Thank you all for understanding and patience as we navigate this issue!

Time Trials are finally here! I just wanted to send a reminder that Time Trials is this Saturday. I have some very exciting news for this year's Time Trials meet: We will be hosting College Station Tsunamis during Time Trials.

The Tsunamis' pool is not available this Saturday due to some maintenance issues so we will be helping their team out. We will run alternating heats for each event for each team.

We will be running this like a normal meet to help everyone get into the groove of things before we kick the season off! We will have College Station supplying volunteers as if they were the away team to help supplement our volunteer numbers.

Please make sure you RSVP Yes or No to the meet so that we can get everyone that will be here entered into the meet. We have deadlines set up like a normal swim week. That means all RSVP's must be completed by Wednesday at 10:00pm and all volunteer positions will be locked on Friday night at 10:00pm.

Please make sure you check the volunteer link as well. We have a ton of open spots and can't do these meets without your help! If you have not already filled out the volunteer form please do so as soon as possible! I have attached a link for you to fill out the application. All NEW volunteers must fill out an application. If you filled out the volunteer application last year and volunteered then you are already good to go!

Be on the look out for more emails from me this week!

Let me know if you have any questions on anything.

Swim Practice Today

Parents,

Today is our first scheduled day of practice! Hooray!!! But the weather kind of stinks today.

We will be keeping an eye on the weather throughout the day and will begin evaluating radar conditions around 3:00pm as we approach the 5:30pm start time of our first practice. Please make sure you're checking the website (www.BryanBarracudas.com) and your emails for updates on practice as the potential for practice to be canceled this afternoon is elevated. Any thunder, lightning, or heavy rainfall that obscures the bottom of the pool can close the pool for practice.

The possibility does exist for us to cancel 1 practice and not the other depending on weather conditions so make sure you're checking back with us for the latest updates.

Fingers crossed that I will see everyone at the pool tonight!

2016 Registration is Open

Howdy Parents!!

The time to start getting ready for Summer Swim Season is finally here!! We are now registering for the Bryan Barracudas 2016 Swim Team - click HERE to register!

We are so excited to see everyone back this summer and can't wait to get started! Feel free to download your copy of the 2016 Parent Handbook - there are some rule updates for this year in there from NWAL so be sure to read through and check them out.

Here is a quick peek at some of the big changes rom NWAL for 2016:

1. Rule requiring 2 dual meets to swim divisionals now just requires a qualifying time for an event

2. Updated scoring for dual and divisional meets (more opportunities for points)

3. Added two new events (went from 78 to 80events)

The Calendar is updated with our meet schedule, practice schedule, stroke clinic, and meet the coaches. Be on the look out for officials training dates coming soon!

I can't wait to get started with another terrific swim season!!
